The roadmap gives an overview of Austroads’ activities and timeframes to progress the development and implementation of the proposed National ITS Architecture. It includes a timeline that identifies key milestones in the ongoing development, governance and adoption of the National ITS Architecture, when Austroads will engage with the broader government bodies and the ITS industry, and outlines what is required to develop and implement the National ITS Architecture.

ITS as a whole, includes basic management systems such as car navigation, traffic signal control systems, variable message signs, automatic number plate recognition or speed cameras; monitoring applications such as CCTV, systems that integrate live data and feedback from a number of sources, such as parking guidance; and predictive techniques that allow advanced modeling and comparison with historical data.
