The road, north of Coen on Cape York Peninsula in Queensland will undergo critical upgrades to improve accessibility to the region for the local community and industries.

The Contractor, CMC, will include employment and training opportunities for Indigenous employees as part of the project. CMC has also indicated that is will use a significant number of sub-contractors local to the region.

The project includes improvements to drainage, and pavement works and bitumen sealing to produce an 8.5-metre-wide sealed road.

Nearly 34 kilometres of the Peninsula Development Road was sealed last year under the Cape York Region Package. Three more projects on the road are planned for this year – two between Laura and Coen and another between Coen and Weipa.
