Contract for Victorian Intelligent Transport Systems awarded

Roads & Infrastructure Magazine talks to experts from Swinburne University of Technology about the potential for smart city concepts and how it may change the nature of urban mobility.

The eight-year Victorian Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) contract has been awarded to Lendlease, with the opportunity for two extensions.

Lendlease will manage and maintain Victoria’s roadside technologies, including electronic message signs, vehicle detection loops, tidal flow systems, traffic lights, CCTV cameras and variable speed limit signs. The eight-year Victorian Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) contract has been awarded to Lendlease, with the opportunity for two extensions.

The systems monitor and control the flow of traffic to inform motorists and improve safety. ITS also provide consistent travel times, improve communications with drivers about speed and lane availability and changed traffic conditions.

The scope of works also includes upgrading VicRoads ITS and communications network and the provision of a Network Operations Centre.

“We look forward to collaborating with VicRoads on best practice ITS asset maintenance to deliver a safe, efficient and high-quality road network for customers in Victoria,” Lendlease General Manager of Transport Infrastructure Eckart Schlotfeldt said.
