The Australian and Victorian Governments last week announced the start of major improvement works to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersections of the Calder Freeway-Station Road following the announcement of the successful tenderer.
Local contracting company Newnham Earthmoving has been awarded the contract to carry out the $6.7 million upgrade near Gisborne, Victoria.
The project will upgrade the key road connections between Morrow Road and Webb Crescent, benefiting the more than 16,000 vehicles that use Station Road at this location on an average day.
Works will include the constriction of two new roundabouts, located at the on- and off-ramps on either side of the Calder freeway, as well as a new four-lane section of Station Road under the freeway.
The project also includes new bike and pedestrian paths and better ramp connections between the Calder Freeway and Station Road.
The new intersections are expected to be fully operational by the end of 2016.
