Construction of the new Werrington Arterial Road at Claremont Meadows has reached a major milestone with work on the project hitting the halfway mark.

Minister for Major Projects Paul Fletcher said the $70 million upgrade, which links the M4 Motorway and Great Western Highway, formed an important part of the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan.

“This upgrade is an important part of our plan to improve key arterial roads in Western Sydney, reduce travel times and improve safety for motorists in the area,” said Federal Minister for Major Projects Paul Fletcher in a statement.

New South Wales Minister for Roads Duncan Gay also said in a statement that with more than 50 per cent of the project now completed traffic this week moved onto a new section of Gipps Street and Kent Road, north of Sunflower Drive and south of the Caddens Road intersection.

“It is great to see this project powering ahead so quickly, getting benefits to the motorists sooner. I look forward to the upgrade opening by the end of the year,” Mr. Gay said.

The upgrade includes a new shared path, and a bridge across the M4 Motorway, to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

The upgrade also includes widening a two-kilometre section of the Kent Road and Gipps Street corridor to four lanes and building two new east facing ramps on the M4 Motorway to increase capacity and improve travel times for road users.
