WSA Co Chief Executive Graham Millett said the major earthworks and airside civil works have been split into three packages.

“We’ve been delighted by the market interest in the project and the eagerness to be part of this history-making project. By splitting the major earthworks into three contracts we’re able to broaden the number of eligible tendering parties and drive greater value for the community,” Mr. Millett said.

“We anticipate the award of the contract will be completed mid-2019 and we expect to see major earthworks commencing by late 2019, while the recently awarded early earthworks package is scheduled to commence in coming weeks,” he said.

WSA Co is also calling for requests for tender on the design and construction of the airport Visitor Centre, with an appointment expected in October 2018.

The project is expected to support more than 11,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase and WSA Co has committed to a target of 30 per cent local employment during the construction period.

The Western Sydney Airport is aiming for a 2026 open date.
