The duplication of a three-kilometre section of the road between Gollogly Lane and Allambie Lane is aimed to support the Upper Ross community and the anticipated number of vehicles that will use this route in the future.

According to a statement from the Queensland Government, an average of 24,000 vehicles use Riverway Drive each day.

Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper said traffic numbers were expected to reach almost 37,000 in the next 20 years.

“Duplicating Riverway Drive will improve travel times and safety with installation of central medians, signalised intersections and pedestrian crossings,” said Mr. Harper.

He encourages local suppliers, who are pre-qualified with QTenders to consider the tender information online.

“This first stage of the tender process gives companies the opportunity to show their previous experience in areas such as maximising local procurement and delivering similar projects,” he said.

“Once detailed design is completed later this year applicants will then be invited to tender, and those applications will then be assessed in the new year.”

Mr Harper said the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads is working with council, developers and the community to ensure the needs of motorists, pedestrians and cyclists were considered.

“As construction approaches, the project team will doorknock local residents between Allambie and Gollogly Lane to discuss the project, distribute flyers, provide website updates and put up VMS signs.”
