The VicRoads Major Projects Division has become a new dedicated authority called the Major Road Project Authority (MPRA).

The MPRA will act as a new Administrative Office under the Officer of the Coordinator-General and begin operations on 1 July 2018.The VicRoads Major Projects Division has become a new dedicated authority called the Major Road Project Authority (MPRA).

The delivery of major road projects currently being delivered by the Major Projects Division of Vic Roads will be transferred to the new Authority.

The creation of the MRPA comes in an effort to bring a more integrated approach to project delivery across the broader Victorian transport portfolio.

VicRoads will continue to have a central role in the Victorian transport network by operating and maintaining the metro, suburban and country road network. It will also continue with its registration and licensing functions and assisting Transport for Victoria with road system planning.

The MRPA is separate to and does not have any impact on the North East Link Authority of the Western Distributor Authority.

Some of the major projects include the Monash Freeway Upgrade, Suburban Roads Upgrade, Mordialloc Freeway, CityLink Tulla Widening, Chandler Highway Upgrade, and the Echuca-Moama Bridge.
