Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel out to market

Following the announcement of the Victorian 2016/17 Budget, expressions of interest are now being sought for the multi-billion dollar Metro Tunnel.

Following the announcement of the Victorian 2016/17 Budget, expressions of interest are now being sought for the multi-billion dollar Metro Tunnel. The Victorian Government announced last week that expressions are being sought to deliver the biggest public transport project in Australia – Melbourne’s new Metro Tunnel.

The public private partnership, expected to be in the range of $6 billion, will deliver the nine kilometre twin tunnels underneath the city’s CBD, and the five new underground stations.

The start of the procurement process began last week, following the announcement in the Victorian Budget 2016/17 that the Andrew Labor Government would full fund and deliver the $10.9 billion project.

The new Metro Tunnel will give the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines their own tunnel through the CBD, which will free up space in the Loop to run more trains in and out of the City.

The new undergrounds stations will be located at Arden, Parkville and Domain, with two new city stations directly connected to Flinders Street and Melbourne Central.

Early works begin in 2017, with the major construction delivered through this package to start in 2018.

The EOI process closes at 2:00pm on Thursday 9 June. For more information, visit melbournemetro.vic.gov.au.
