More than $40 million in improvements has begun to rehabilitate sections of road to make them smoother and resistant to further damage, and will continue over the next 12 months.

Major repairs and maintenance works will take place on a number of key sites, including the Hume, Goulburn Valley, McIvor, Kiewa and Midland highways, as well as vital rural routes, including Benambra-Corryong, Benalla-Yarrawonga and Bacchus Marsh-Gisborne roads.

Over 250 kilometres of road will also be resealed across the regions including sections of the Murray Valley Highway, Melba Highway, Borung Highway, Pyrenees Highway and Great Alpine.

“The north and north eastern region is Victoria’s food bowl, tourism playground and a key national freight hub, and these works will help to continue to drive these industries,” said Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan in a statement.

“We know that many communities have had a tough time lately with flooding and heavy rain. This funding will allow us to get on with some much needed maintenance.”

The works will be delivered by regional contractors including the North Eastern Maintenance Alliance.
