The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) opened a new office in Adelaide on 30 October, boosting its presence in the region.
South Australian Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mulligan opened the new offices as part of the transition from state-based heavy vehicle services to the NHVR.
Mr. Mulligan said the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure and the NHVR have worked closely together to make the transition as smooth as possible, with the move to a national regime providing greater consistency across jurisdictions.
The transition of South Australian services began in July 2016 with Prosecution, Investigation and Intelligences coming under the NHVR.
The NHVR’s new Safety and Compliance team will provide on-road compliance services from its new Adelaide head office as well as regional offices in Mount Gambier, Berri, Murray Bridge, Port Augusta and Ceduna.
NHVR CEO Sal Petroccitto has said the transition delivered one of the key roles which the NHVR was set up to achieve.
“While drivers and operators will see a different logo on our vehicles and different uniforms on roadside officers, the NHVR is working to make the transition as seamless as possible,” said Mr. Petroccitto.
“With staff based in South Australia we can continue to work towards a national approach to heavy vehicle safety and compliance.
“I’d particularly like to thank the heavy vehicle industry across South Australia for their time and feedback to ensure that we were able to make this transition as smooth as possible,” he said.
