The Northern Territory Government is investing $4.7 million through its Strategic Local Government Infrastructure Fund grants to address infrastructure deficiencies in remote communities.
Minister for Local Government Gerry McCarthy said the grants will provide regional and shire councils a capital injection to improving infrastructure in their local area and to address matters which they would otherwise have limited capacity to resolve.
“Some of the works that will be delivered include upgrades to internal roads and crossings including resealing, improved drainage and new traffic signage,” said Mr. McCarthy.
“Some sporting and recreational areas will also receive upgrades to shade covers, landscaping and irrigation.”
Regional councils in Central Australia, Barkly, Tiwi Islands, Roper Gulf, the Victoria Daly region, East and West Arnhem, and the smaller Coomalie, Belyuen and Wagait, will receive grant funding.
