Repairs underway to flood-damaged roads, TAS

The Tasmanian Government has announced the contractor to deliver repairs on the high priority roads and bridges.

The Tasmanian Government has announced the contractor to deliver repairs on the high priority roads and bridges.Works to reopen sections of Tasmania’s Murchison Highway and Olivers Road, which were badly damaged in recent floods are now underway following the announcement of the successful contractor.

Murchison Highway from Fingerpost to Hellyer Gorge, and Olivers Road from Mersey Forest Road to Lemonthyme Road were affected by significant landslips during the June flooding and require major reconstruction.

The Tasmanian Government has appointed Shaw Contracting (Aust) Pty Ltd to complete repairs to both roads, as part of the state government’s $8.7 million package for repairs to high priority roads and bridges.

Repairs began this week and are expected to be completed by December 2016.

The Tasmanian Government has also committed $3.25 million in additional funding for repairs to Mersey Forest Road which was badly damaged by several major landslips, and sections of road surface and culverts washed away in the June floods.
