More than $276,000 has been committed to the construction of a dedicated right turn lane in the Gympie region on Tin Can Bay Road to separate through and turning traffic.

Additional upgrades in the Gympie region include vehicle activated signs, chevron alignment markers and truck tipping signs on the Burnett Highway and audio tactile line marking on a section of the Wide Bay Highway.

In order to alert motorists travelling too fast on the Burnett Highway, $75,000 has gone towards the installation of vehicle activated signs on a sharp bend around 25 kilometres north of Monto.

More than $300,000 has also been committed to improving the safety of the South Burnett region, with improved signage, curve widening works, and audio tactile linemarking to be applied.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the long-running initiative continued to provide tangible safety benefits for Queenslanders.

“Safer Roads Sooner is one of our strongest road safety improvement programs and focuses on high benefit, cost effective road engineering treatments that address known and potential crash locations,” Mr Bailey said.

Mr Bailey said the upgrades were all scheduled to take place in the 2018-19 financial year.

“In preparation for the works, project officers will contact surrounding residents at each site and provide information about the scope of works and any impacts,” he said.
