Seymour Whyte Constructions has won the tender to upgrade the Swan Street Bridge and work to remove the notorious bottleneck within months.

The upgrade is aimed at reducing travel times, improving reliability and increasing safety.

The project includes the construction of an additional eastbound lane on the bridge and Olympic Boulevard, increasing the number of traffic lanes to five.

Two new four metre-wide pedestrian and cycling paths will also be built on both sides of the bridge.

Works will begin following the Moomba Festival and will be completed by the end of 2017.
