TAS budget delivers $1.1B for roads and rail

The Tasmanian Government’s 2018-19 budget has committed $1.1 billion for road and rail upgrades for the state, including $24.1M for road projects in the north west and west coast regions.

Some of the projects included in the $24.1 million, include: Bass Highway works west of Wynyard including rebuilding works through Britton’s Swamp, reconstruction of sections of the Henty Main Road and construction of an overpass at Leith.

“We know that better roads save lives and reduce the impact of serious crashes, as well as increase productivity and liveability as commuters travel more efficiently, so we are investing in a number of major road projects,” Tasmanian Minister for Infrastructure Jeremy Rockliff said in a statement.

The announcement comes in addition to the Federal Government’s commitment of $400 million to upgrade Tasmanian roads of strategic importance.
