The 2016 AustStab Awards of Excellence winners

The best of the best in stabilisation have been recognised at this year’s prestigious AustStab Awards of Excellence.

The best of the best in stabilisation have been recognised at this year’s prestigious AustStab Awards of Excellence.The annual AustStab Awards of Excellence have been a key event in the Australian stabilisation industry’s calendar since its inception. Each year, the awards pay tribute to the wide variety of professionals, innovations and projects that make up the country’s growing stabilisation sector.

Held at the Sanctuary Cove Resort on Hope Island in Queensland on 27 July, this year’s awards, supported by Caterpillar Australia, once again recognised the best in Australia’s road stabilisation sector.

The awards fall into five categories: Work Health and Safety, Excellence in Research or Education, Innovation or Excellence in Sustainability in Pavement Stabilisation, Innovation or Excellence in Recycling in Stabilised Pavements in Local Government, and the Young Stabiliser of the Year.

Category One: Work Health and Safety

Winner: Stabilime Distributors Pty Ltd
– Continual Improvement Program

Finalist: Stabilised Pavements of Australia
– Transition to ISO 45001

Finalist: Downer EDI Works – Mission Possible

 

Category Two: Excellence in Research or Education

Winner: Queensland Government Department of Transport and Main Roads – Foamed Bitumen Specification Harmonisation

Highly Commended: Polymix Industries
– Research and Innovation to Develop a Binder to Modify Marginal Pavement Materials

 

Category Three: Innovation or Excellence in Sustainability in Pavement Stabilisation

Winner: Outback Road Network – A Step Towards Perpetual Pavements using robust Stabilised Pavement Structures

Highly Commended: Department State Growth, Hazell Bros. Group Pty Ltd – Brooker Highway Rehabilitation – Foamed Bitumen Stabilisation

 

Category Four: Innovation or Excellence in Recycling in Stabilised Pavements in Local Government

Winner: Gold Coast City Council
– Innovation and Excellence in Local Government

Highly Commended: Cassowary Coast Regional Council
– In-situ Blending and Recycling Unsealed Road Pavements

Highly Commended: Warrnambool City Council
– Road Rehabilitation Using Stabilisation (Recycling) Techniques

Finalist: Auburn City Council, Cumberland Council
– Urban Pavement Recycling

 

Category Five: Young Stabiliser of the Year

Winner: Jed Martin

Highly Commended: Mitchell Jackson

Highly Commended: Brendan Pinson
