The Victorian Government has announced a $20 million investment in significant agri-food routes, designed to improve the roads for heavy vehicles that transport beef, wool and farm produce.

This funding is delivered through the state government’s AgriLink’s Upgrade Program which will assist with 48 road intersection and bridge works across Victoria. This funding will be allocated through 38 rural, regional and peri-urban councils.

This program is part of the state governments overarching $2.7B Building Works package that aims to create jobs through infrastructure projects across Victoria.

Mary-Anne Thomas, Minister for Agriculture and Member for Macedon said, “Improving the roads and infrastructure used by farmers and producers will help them grow their businesses by reaching more customers more quickly, contributing to the overall growth of the sector.”

This AgriLink Upgrade Program is aimed at increasing connectivity between country roads and major transport routes to boost productivity and reduce travel times.

According to a statement released by Daniel Andrews, Premier of Victoria, businesses that are part of the agri-food supply chain from producers to processors will benefit from these increased connectiveness to markets and communities.

This program follows on from the previous Local Roads to Market Program which saw the support of 78 local projects in Victoria’s regional and rural agriculture freight routes.
