The design phase of the $215 million Mitchell Freeway extension in Western Australia is underway with investigative works, geotechnical investigations and surveying being conducted.

This project will see the Mitchell Freeway extended 5.6 kilometres north from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road and will have two lanes running in each direction.

The project aims to reduce congestion and improve connectivity in Perth’s north-west corridor. Works will also see a cycle network and Principal Shared Path (PSP) built on the western side of the freeway.

The Mitchell Extension Joint Venture (MEJV), on behalf of Main Roads, has been appointed to design and construct the extension project with local companies BMD Constructions and Georgiou Group assigned to construct the extension.

The project is co-founded by the West Australian and Australian Government on a 50:50 basis with both contributing $107.5 million.

Construction is scheduled to begin mid-2021.
