The Federal and Victorian Governments are investing $219 million to upgrade Mickleham Road in Greenvale in Melbourne’s north.

The upgrades will aim to improve safety and travel time for the busy road, which currently carries around 25,000 vehicles each day – a figure projected to increase due to the rapid growth in the area.

Stage 1 of the upgrade will involve building extra lanes in both directions between Somerton Road and Dellamore Boulevard, adding new traffic lights at the Aitken College intersection, replacing the roundabout at Somerton Road and Mickleham Road with traffic lights, upgrading the Hillview Road and Dellamore Boulevard intersections, and building new sections of walking and cycling paths.

“The Mickleham Road Upgrade builds on our significant investment in the north – not only improving safety and travel time but also providing a boost to the economy with hundreds of new jobs,” said Ben Carroll, Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety.

The project includes funding to progress planning for a potential future upgrade of Mickleham Road between Dellamore Boulevard and Craigieburn Road.

The project will also complement works already underway on the Craigieburn Road Upgrade, which will add lanes in each direction and upgrade intersections between Mickleham Road and the Hume Highway.

Catherine King, Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development said: “This vital upgrade will reduce congestion and improve safety and travel time along Mickleham Road – ensuring people get home to their families sooner and more safely.”

Technical investigations will be carried out to inform future planning decisions, assist in shaping the initial design, and to minimise impact to the community.
