The Federal and Queensland governments have announced the release of 22 new contracts to market for projects that form part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP).
Of these 22, five are for construction procurement, with the remaining 17 comprising of design contracts. These works will deliver safety upgrades to priority stretches of the Bruce Highway between Gympie and Cairns.
Across these 22 new contracts, works will deliver more than 100 kilometres of wide centre line treatments, 50 kilometres of pavement strengthening and new overtaking lanes, five narrow bridge upgrades in north Queensland, as well as additional road widening, resurfacing and intersection works.
Contractors will be appointed progressively from April 2026.
Dedicated designer and constructor panels were established for the BHTSP to streamline procurement, accelerate delivery and ensure value for money.
Other works that form part of the BHTSP are also progressing. This includes the completion of eight projects, with 17 currently underway and another 13 construction projects rolling out from early 2026.
The program of works between Gympie and Cairns are being jointly funded on an 80:20 basis between the Federal and Queensland governments.
