$40M Mitchell Freeway widening underway

Construction of a new seven kilometer lane on Western Australia’s Mitchell Highway is underway, with works delivered by BMD Constructions.

The project is part of the Boosting Jobs, Busting Congestion initiative, launched by the state government and fully funded through a redirection of funds allocated to the Perth Freight Link project.

Premier Mark McGowan said works include a new lane median between Hutton and Vincent street, earthworks, new draiinage pipes, intelligent traffic management systems, electrical works including street lighting and concrete barrier installation separating road users from train lines.

“With 180,000 vehicles using Mitchell Freeway each day, a complex construction methodology has been required to ensure the same number of travelling lanes remain open during daytime hours and road users can continue to make safe journeys,” Mr. McGowan said.

Works are expected to be complete by late 2019.
