A new $60 million investment by the New South Wales Government will kickstart the proposed Sydney CBD to Parramatta active pathway project.

The Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link will connect the Sydney Opera House to Parramatta Park with a 91-kilometre continuous pathway for pedestrians and cyclists.

Matt Kean, Treasurer, said the 2022-23 Budget commitment would improve the lives of tens of thousands of people along the Parramatta River.

“This pathway will take in some of our most spectacular sights and unlock the incredible lifestyle and accessibility opportunities the route offers for the benefit of locals and visitors,” he said.

Rob Stokes, Minister for Infrastructure, Cities and Active Transport, said the pathway would be one of Sydney’s longest and most crucial active transport connections, traversing 18 suburbs.

“Since 1811 our city’s prosperity has been propelled by road and rail connections between the settlements of Sydney and Parramatta,” he said. “This new connection will allow walking and cycling trips to proliferate, making lives easier, healthier and more enjoyable for locals, commuters and visitors for centuries to come.”

James Griffin, Minister for Environment, said the pathway would enhance Sydney’s stunning natural assets.

“No matter where you live, you should have the opportunity to access, enjoy and benefit from our environment, and this new pathway will be a fantastic addition to the great outdoors for the people of NSW,” he said.

The funding will help progress the project to its next stages, including design of the initial project stages identified in its 2020 feasibility study, solutions for remaining inaccessible foreshore sections, and prioritisation of works in consultation with councils.
