Infrastructure and planning projects on the Sunshine Coast will share in almost $86 million thanks to the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP).
Funded projects include a new boardwalk around Caloundra Headland, construction of Stage 1 of the McKinnon Drive Community Sports Facility, and investigation and planning for future Transit Hubs in Noosa.
Jason Hunt, Member for Caloundra, said the projects would have a positive impact on local communities.
“The Government is committed to working with our councils to invest in infrastructure that will benefit local communities,” he said.
“We’re awarding $980,000 to Sunshine Coast Regional Council for the Caloundra Headland Coast Pathway Project. This project will see a new boardwalk around Caloundra Headland that will link to Kings Beach and the 2032 Olympic and Paralympics live festival site.”
Steven Miles, Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government, said it was just one of 80 infrastructure and planning projects to share in the funding.
“This grants program is designed to support councils to deliver priority infrastructure projects that improve the liveability of communities and support economic growth and employment,” he said.
As well funding new projects, the LGGSP is also aimed at extending the functional life of existing infrastructure and improving asset management, helping councils stretch their budgets.
Noosa Shire Council will receive $390,000 for construction of Stage 1 of the McKinnon Drive Community Sports Facility. The multi-use community facility will offer an active hub for organised sports, events, and recreation.
Projects eligible for the 2022-24 LGGSP can commence from 1 July 2022 and must be delivered by 30 June 2024.
