Mr. Flecker, Chief Executive of Brookfield Multiplex Australasia and India, will take up the role following the retirement of former President David Saxelby from Lendlease.

The ACA also announced the appointment of two Vice Presidents.

Nick Miller, Managing Director of Fulton Hogan, has been re-elected as Vice President and Cathal O’Rourke, Managing Director of Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction, has been elected as the Association’s other Vice President.

In a statement released by the ACA Mr. Flecker thanked Mr. Saxelby for his commitment to the ACA over the years as a director and then as President.

“David Saxelby has had a distinguished career as leader of a number of Australia’s major construction companies and has been responsible for a significant number of Australia’s iconic construction projects. He has been associated with the ACA as a director since 2003, and we expect that David will continue to have an involvement with the industry,” Mr. Flecker said.

Mr. Flecker welcomed the appointment of Mr. Miller and Mr. O’Rourke as Vice Presidents and commented that their mix of local and international experience would be a significant advantage to the ACA in its leadership of the industry.

Mr. Flecker also said that the ACA will be pursuing significant change to the way the industry operates in the future, especially in relation to major projects.

“We recently released a report on mega-projects that identifies a number of major improvements that can be made to the way large projects are undertaken,” he said.

“The Mega-Projects Report identifies that better development and management of projects could release billions of dollars for additional infrastructure, and provide more beneficial and sustainable outcomes for the community. The ACA has commenced a program of engagement with Australian governments to work with them to implement the improvements identified in the Report.”
