Bardavcol awarded contract to build first new South Eastern Freeway interchange.

South Australia bypassSouth Australian business Bardavcol has been awarded the tender to design and build the first new South Eastern Freeway interchange, the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development announced in early April.

The new Bald Hills Road interchange will feature on and off ramps in both directions to reduce congestion and improve safety for all motorists.

Works will include an on-ramp for Adelaide-bound traffic and an off-ramp for traffic from Adelaide, as well as a new roundabout at the Old Princess Highway and Bald Hills Road junction.

The project is expected to achieve immediate safety outcomes and improve traffic flows for Mt Barker, while also being ready to meet future traffic demands with planned residential development in the Mt Barker area.

The Australian Government is contributing $16 million, the South Australian Government is contributing $8 million and the District Council of Mt Barker is contributing $3 million to this $27 million project.

The project commenced in December 2014 and is expected to be completed in mid 2016.
