The New Zealand Government’s Ministry of Health has selected CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors for the Early Contractor Engagement contract (ECE) for the New Dunedin Hospital Inpatient Building.
The new hospital project will be the single biggest hospital project ever undertaken in New Zealand. The new building will provide modern medical facilities, as well as an adjusted layout which will include 421 beds throughout the building.
The new facility will also support the building’s role as a tertiary teaching hospital for prospective health workers. The facility will be constructed on a site in central Dunedin.
The ECE process will take approximately18 months alongside the design and delivery stages of the new building.
An ECE process is a procurement model which allows the contractor of a project to be involved in the early phases of design between parties such as designers and builders.
CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Juan Santamaria said the contract followed CPB’s delivery of several health facilities in New Zealand and Australia.
“Our capabilities in health facility planning, technology and design will support the Ministry of Health and the Southern District Health Board to achieve a new hospital that incorporates technology and processes that improve efficiency and the experience of patients and staff,” he said.
CPB Contractor’s previous projects include facilities for Christchurch Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital in Sydney, as well as upgrades for Wagga Wagga, Coffs Harbour and Campbelltown hospitals in Australia.
