The New South Wales Government is seeking feedback on new Sydney Metro plans for transit-oriented precincts at Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park.
The plans detail the vision for seven new buildings above or adjacent to the two stations on the 24km Sydney Metro West line.
Sydney Metro West is a new 24-kilometre metro line with stations confirmed at Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays, Pyrmont and Hunter Street in the Sydney CBD.
This new underground railway will connect Greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD and will double the rail capacity between the two CBDs, linking new communities to rail services and supporting employment growth and housing supply.
This is an opportunity for the community to respond to plans for four new buildings at Parramatta metro precinct and three buildings at Sydney Olympic Park metro precinct. These buildings will provide public open spaces and retail at ground level, and opportunities for commercial and residential spaces above.
Feedback received during this planning stage will set the framework for how design will be achieved later in the planning process when more detailed design work is completed.
The community will be invited to give feedback again at the next stage of planning, where details for the building and surroundings will be exhibited.
Minister for Planning and Homes Anthony Roberts said the new metro stations and developments are vital to the vision for the Parramatta CBD and the Sydney Olympic Park town centre.
“The Sydney Olympic Park metro station precinct will sit in the heart of the new town centre and will be within footsteps of Sydney’s premier sporting and entertainment events, supporting the more than 10 million people who live and stay in the area each year,” Roberts said.
When Sydney Metro West services start in 2030, commuters will have access to fast and reliable metro services, including target travel times of about 20 minutes between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD.
Public comment on Sydney Olympic Park metro over and adjacent station development external site and Parramatta metro over station development external site will be available from 16 November 2022 to 13 December 2022.
