The Federal and New South Wales governments have allocated $64 million to upgrade the Tumbi road and Central Coast Highway intersection on the Central Coast.
This project is one component of the 3.8 kilometre Central Coast Highway upgrade between Wamberal and Bateau Bay. This includes replacing the existing intersection roundabout with traffic lights, widening the Central Coast Highway north of the intersection to two lanes in each direction, and providing new and upgraded footpaths and shared paths.

Minister for NSW Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the upgrade will ensure the highway is prepared for future growth
“Around 26,500 motorists use this section of the highway daily and we are getting on with the job of improving the way people commute and connect along the coast,” Farraway said.
Minister for Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the aim of the upgrade is to reduce delays and improve traffic flow for the community.
“The intersection upgrade will reduce delays and improve traffic flow, as well as improve journey and reliability for motorists who travel along this key route,” King said.
The construction of the project is expected to start in 2023 and is expected to be completed by mid 2027.
