Construction finished on $14.3M Yass to Murrumbateman water pipeline

Construction to improve water quality in Murrumbateman and Yass is now complete, with over 3,000 locals set to benefit from the project.

The 17.9-kilometre water pipeline was co-funded by the federal and New South Wales Governments, as well as the Yass Valley Council.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the project will help to create and support local jobs.

“[This project] is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to strengthening Australia’s regions by improving the productivity, employment and workforce skills of Australians,” McCormack said.

The project was also supported by the NSW Government’s Restart NSW program, which aims to support state projects and infrastructure.

Local member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the project will greatly benefit the local community.

“The project is a huge boost for local residents with the potential for an estimated 170 new jobs to be created thanks to the potential housing construction activities now the project has been completed,” Tuckerman said.

“It has been a massive undertaking for Council staff and contractors and I’m pleased to say that we are now ready to supply water to people of Murrumbateman.”

It is estimated that 170 new jobs will be created through potential housing construction activities that will take advantage of a reliable water source.
