Work is set to commence on the $62 million Gunnedah rail overpass project, which involves rebuilding sections of Warrabungle Street for the new bridge across the railway line in NSW.
Roads and Maritime Services has contracted Daracon Group to undertake the works, with earth works commencing this week.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the NSW Government is funding the project, aimed at improving road safety and freight connectivity.
“This is great news for Gunnedah, but to ensure the safety of motorists and workers, Warrabungle Street will be temporarily closed for up to 12 months between Little Barber and New streets while this work is carried out,” he said.
“While there might be some short term inconvenience, when this bridge is finished Gunnedah will have a whole new outlook to its traffic flow and safety for motorists and truck drivers.
The New Gunnedah bridge project is expected to be completed in mid-2021, weather permitting.
