Contract awarded for Brookton Highway bridge restoration in WA

The Western Australian Government has awarded the contract for the $1.3 million restoration of the bridge over the South Avon River in the Shire of Brookton, improving safety and freight links.

Construction of a bridge on Queensland’s Bruce Highway, aimed at improving flood immunity, has reached a major milestone this week.The Western Australian Government has awarded the contract for the $1.3 million restoration of the bridge over the South Avon River in the Shire of Brookton, improving safety and freight links.

Western Australian construction company Densford Civil Pty ltd has won the tender to undertake the upgrade, which will improve safety and the overall lifespan of the structure on this important freight route in the Wheatbelt region. On an average day, 1000 vehicles use this section of the Brookton Highway, 23 per cent of which are heavy vehicles.

The work will involved the demolition of the existing overlay and the construction of a new reinforced concrete deck and approach slabs. The project also includes substructure repairs and preventative maintenance.

The works will be managed by Main Roads’ Wheatbelt Region with completion expected by June 2016.
