A construction contract has been awarded for replacement of the Water Corporation’s Wellington Dam Bridge Replacement Project in Western Australia.
The contract has been awarded to construction engineering company Seymour Whyte, which will deliver works to replace the existing bridge at the foot of Wellington Dam, near Collie.
Other works will include a new dual-lane structure featuring new approaches, new pedestrian footpath and improved safety barriers.
The single lane Wellington Dam Road bridge was built in 1966. In February 2021, the Wellington Dam mural ‘Reflections’ was completed, drawing more traffic to the bridge as it is the largest dam mural spanning 8,000 square metres.
Engineering reviews found the bridge to be unfit for its load limit and was closed to pedestrians and vehicles in May 2021 to ensure public safety.

Preliminary work at the site is scheduled to begin in March 2025, followed by the demolition of the old bridge. Construction of the new bridge will then commence, with completion expected by mid 2026.
The new bridge will enhance access and offer an unobstructed view the dam.
Mark Davidovic, General Manager Western Region for Seymore Whyte said Western Australia is a key regional focus area for the company’s strategic national growth.
“We are excited to deliver this project, which demonstrates our long-term commitment to Western Australia, and we look forward to working closely with our new client, Water Corporation,” said Davidovic.
“This project strengthens our presence in Western Australia and is a testament to our existing strong relationships with our supply chain partners, our commitment to supporting local industries and our expertise in delivering infrastructure that creates lasting value for the communities we work in.”
Preliminary work at the site is scheduled to commence in late March 2025.
