On April 1st 2021, the Denny Avenue level crossing will close to make way for the new underpass.
Crews will close the Denny Avenue crossing for 24 hours to perform critical works that will enable the underpass to open.
Commuters and pedestrians will be directed to alternate crossings during the disruption.
During the 24 hours the Denny Avenue level crossing will be removed and decommissioned, crews will lay 850 metres of rail track and a new principal shared path bridge will be built on the overpass.
The remaining piles to go directly underneath the existing rail bridge will be constructed, new traffic lights will be installed and any road final construction works will also be completed.
Denny Avenue will be the first of eight level crossings to be removed under METRONET.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said in 2020, there are six METRONET projects underway, creating thousands of local jobs and creating opportunities for local businesses.
“The METRONET Bayswater Station upgrade and Denny Avenue level crossing removal projects, combined with construction of other nearby major projects like the Tonkin Gap and Morley-Ellenbrook Line, will help support the WA economy through some tough times ahead,” Saffioti said.
