Gold Coasters will get a sneak peek at detailed designs of the new Pimpama station, being built in the city’s north as part of the Cross River Rail project.

The Queensland Government yesterday released the detailed design, which will be available to the public for consultation running until August 7.

The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is planning three new rail stations on the Gold Coast Line to help connect South East Queensland’s growing population. Stations are being planned for Pimpama, Helensvale North and Merrimac.

Professional services company GHD and architectural firm GHDWoodhead have been commissioned by the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority for the design of three stations.

The design for Pimpama Station has been refined following consultation on the concept design in October 2019. The new design includes five accessible car parks, through-lifts on both platforms, canopy coverage for 60 per cent of station platforms, among other features. The car parks will be delivered in three stages.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said major infrastructure like the Cross River Rail project was an important part of the government’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan.

“My government is delivering new infrastructure on the Gold Coast to create jobs and stimulate the local economy at a time we need it most,” the Premier said.

“In the future, this new station will ensure that locals benefit from Cross River Rail – being able to catch a train within minutes of arriving during peak times.

Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said there would be a staged approach to community consultation on the designs for each of the three new Gold Coast stations, starting with Pimpama on Monday, 12 July.

“The $5.4 billion Cross River Rail project will transform the way we travel across all of South East Queensland,” Mr Bailey said.

“These detailed designs are the next step in delivering these new stations for the Coast, and I urge locals to have a look at them and provide their feedback.”

Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon said the new Pimpama station would transform public transport on the booming northern Gold Coast together with new stations at Helensvale North and Merrimac.

“Just last year Pimpama’s population grew 13.7 per cent, making it one of the fastest-growing areas in our region,” Ms Scanlon said.

“Which is why we need more public transport that’s convenient and accessible – and why we’re investing in three new train stations and expanding light rail on the coast.”

Feedback on the detailed design will be used to inform the final design for construction.

Early construction works on the station access road are planned to start in late 2021 with major construction commencing in 2022. Cross River Rail’s opening is expected in 2025.
