Works are progressing on early construction for the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East project in Victoria, with crews focusing on a new underground station at Glen Waverley.
Micro-tunnelling technology is being used as part of the works to move water pipes way from the SRL station construction zone. This technology minimises the need to use open-cut trenching, preventing additional delays and disruptions for pedestrians, drivers and local businesses.
Built as a standalone 26-kilometre underground rail line that is integrated with the existing public transport network, SRL East includes new underground stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill.
The new underground SRL station at Glen Waverley will sit around 17 metres below ground, with a single station entrance oriented towards Coleman Parade and the existing Glen Waverley Station.

Trains will run every six minutes in the peak, increasing with demand to around every two minutes. Travel time between stations will be around every three to four minutes with a journey between Glen Waverley and Cheltenham taking around 15 minutes.
Early construction works are also continuing in the nearby suburb of Burwood, with additional works also set to begin later this year in Box Hill, Monash, and continue in Clayton.
The first contract for works to build the SRL East tunnels are also set to be awarded later this year, with three companies already shortlisted for these works.
The entirety of the SRL East works are expected to create up to 8000 jobs for local industry and suppliers.
