Construction will soon begin on the Cross Road-Fullarton Road intersection at Highgate and the Portrush and Magill Roads intersection in Maylands as part of the Federal Government’s Urban Congestion Fund package for Adelaide.
The Federal and South Australian Government will both invest $30.5 million in the Highgate upgrade, delivering significant safety and time benefits for the 60,000 vehicles that use the intersection each day.
Historical crash data indicates 44 crashes at the intersection over the last five years (2013–2017).
Each government will also deliver $49 million to widen Portrush Road on approach to the Magill Road intersection to ease congestion.
This project is in addition to the $35 million to deliver the long-awaited Goodwood/Springbank/Daws intersection upgrade.
Since 2013 the Federal Government has committed $5.3 billion to transport infrastructure across Adelaide and South Australia.
