Site establishment works are underway as contractors gear up for major construction later this year to remove the Maidstone Street level crossing, on the Werribee Line in Victoria.
Temporary fencing, site offices and storage areas are being installed during this stage. Works are also being undertaken to clear the site and prepare for underground service relocations ahead of major works.
The level crossing will be removed by building a road bridge to provide the best connection for the industrial area. The road bridge will also help to avoid impacting surrounding utilities.

Removing the level crossing will reduce congestion for the 14,400 vehicles that use the crossing each day, with the boom gates currently down for more than 20 per cent of the morning peak.
These works will also form part of the Metro Tunnel project, which will see more trains running on the Werribee Line. If the boom gates remained at this location, the road would become gridlocked, especially during the peak traffic periods.
Construction of the road bridge will start later this year and the level crossing to be gone for good by 2027.
The Werribee Line will be level crossing free by 2030, with level crossings set to go at several additional locations, which will include the delivery of the new Spotswood Station that will open to passengers in 2028.
