Final contract awarded for Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project

Final contract awarded for Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport project

The third and final major contract for the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project has been awarded to Parklife Metro consortium, who will deliver the Stations, Systems, Trains, Operations and Maintenance (SSTOM) works for the project.

Once operational, the new Metro is expected to transport up to 7,740 passengers each hour in each direction, while also taking about 110,000 vehicles off local roads every day, significantly reducing local traffic.

New metro rail will become the transport spine for Greater Western Sydney, connecting communities and travellers with the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and the growing region. The 23-kilometre new railway will link residential areas with job hubs including the new Aerotropolis, and connect travellers from the new airport to the rest of Sydney’s public transport system.

The Parklife Metro consortium comprises Plenary Origination, Webuild SpA, RATP Developpement SA, Siemens Mobility Ltd, Siemens Mobility GmbH, Siemens Project Ventures GmbH and Siemens Mobility Austria GmbH.

The SSTOM contract has the largest scope of any Sydney Metro contract awarded to date, and is the largest Public Private Partnership awarded in New South Wales.

The contract includes 12 new metro trains, six new stations between St Marys and the new Aerotropolis, core rail systems and the stabling and maintenance facility to be built at Orchard Hills. Parklife Metro will also operate and maintain the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport line for 15 years after it becomes operational.

This follows the announcement that the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport will be the first rail infrastructure project in Australian history to commit to being carbon-neutral from the start of construction through to the operation.
