Works are set to start on the design and pre-construction phase of the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project in Queensland, which when delivered will double the capacity of the Gold Coast rail line.
Under the project, around 20 kilometres of new track and rail systems will be installed between the Kuraby and Beenleigh stations, increasing the corridor from two tracks to four.
The rail line between Kuraby and Beenleigh is a key capacity bottleneck on the network, where trains share a single track in each direction. During peak periods, all-stop Beenleigh trains need to be held to one side to allow Gold Coast express trains to pass through.
Accessibility upgrades will also be delivered at the Kuraby, Trinder Park, Woodridge, Kingston, Loganlea, Bethania, Edens Landing, Holmview, and Beenleigh stations.

A number of level crossing removals are also being delivered as part of the project, with equal investment from the Federal and Queensland governments towards the project aiming to reduce congestion in the lead up to – and during the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the project would deliver more frequent, reliable and affordable public transport.
“Entering into the design and pre-construction contract now will ensure this key infrastructure investment is completed ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Mickelberg said.
“The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project will address increasing population growth and customer demand between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and unlock capacity for additional train services for Queenslanders.”
The Martinus Degnan Joint Venture (Martinus Degnan) won the contract to deliver the Loganlea Station Relocation project last year. Bielby Hull Joint Venture (Bielby Hull) was awarded the design and construction contract to deliver the Open Level Crossing Removal at Beenleigh Road, Kuraby.
More announcements are expected in future regarding additional work contracts.
