Modular manufacturing business Fleetwood has secured a $36 million contract for Brisbane’s Centre for National Resilience, funded by the Federal Government and being constructed by Multiplex in Pinkenba, five kilometres from Brisbane Airport.

Under Queensland’s roadmap, government-run quarantine will still be used for unvaccinated domestic travellers from hotspot regions after the December 17 – or 80 per cent vaccination rate – reopening.

Unvaccinated residents returning from overseas will also still have to quarantine at home or at government sites from that point. Beyond 90 per cent, vaccinated international arrivals will not be required to quarantine.

The Australian Government initially planned to house 1000 people at the Pinkenba facility, with the first beds expected to be ready in the first quarter of 2022. The Government recently hinted at reducing the centre’s capacity to 500 beds, after the state suggested international arrivals could quarantine at home sooner than expected.

Multiplex, has selected Fleetwood as one of several suppliers of modular buildings that will make up the purpose-built quarantine facility.

Under the subcontract arrangement, Fleetwood will utilise its manufacturing facilities in Queensland, New South Wales and Melbourne to build modular accommodation units as part of the Australian Government’s plan to deliver the facilities by March 2022.

The facility will be built and owned by the Australian Government and operated by the Queensland Government for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
