The Federal and South Australian governments have committed additional joint funding to upgrade the heritage-listed Port Augusta Wharf.
Once refurbished, the wharf will be load-rated for pedestrians and light motor vehicles up to three tonnes, improving accessibility and safety. The upgrades will also provide easier access for boats and other watercraft, boosting recreation and tourism.
Additional upgrades will involve installing new decking, girders, cross heads, cross bracing and approximately 80 new steel piles.

“This investment will ensure we can continue our Government’s redevelopment of the Port Augusta Wharf and deliver the infrastructure locals need to support our regions to prosper,” Koutsantonis said.
“We know the outdated infrastructure at Port Augusta Wharf is causing access issues. These essential upgrades will improve local community access and boost economic growth.”
These works are expected to start in mid-2025 and be completed in late 2026.
