A $507 million contract has been awarded to remove the two level crossings at Nerim Road and Glen Huntly Road. Part of this contract will see the construction of a new Glenhuntly Station.
The construction will be carried out by contractors Acciona, Coleman Rail, WSP, Metro Trains Melbourne and the Level Crossing Removal Project.
With the level crossing remaining down for up to 58 per cent of the peak morning traffic, over 40 trains are estimated to pass through.
Introduction of the Glenhuntly Station is expected to see improved pedestrian safety with increased accessibility to shops, public transport and community areas for locals.
The project is expected to generate hundreds of jobs at its peak.
Designs for the station, along with openings for community feedback will be released mid-year with construction expected to begin end of 2021. The project is estimated to be completed by 2024.
