The Victorian Government, as well as the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) have announced that 316 local football and netball clubs will share in $700,000 to promote road safety within their own communities.
The TAC Club Rewards Program gives all AFL Victoria-aligned clubs across regional Victoria and metropolitan leagues a chance to earn up to $10,000 in funding to promote road safety.
This year, the program will aim to tackle speeding driving. With the tagline of ‘Be the Difference’, clubs were asked to start conversations and be part of the campaign to raise awareness.
Around 44 per cent of successful applications were from regional Victoria where serious road trauma risk is the highest.

Successful clubs can use the money for a range of initiatives including education programs, club transport initiatives, new equipment, and uniforms.
Transport Accident Commission CEO Tracey Slatter said local clubs are well placed to promote behaviour change and awareness.
“Footballers and netballers often travel long distances for games and training. By making road safety a priority, these clubs are protecting their members and setting a powerful example,” Slatter said.
“The TAC Club Rewards Program is part of the TAC’s 33-year partnership with AFL Victoria, which aims to empower clubs to develop a culture where all players and members are expected to be safe on the roads.”
