The Northern Territory Government has released the $40 million tender to realign and seal Gunn Point Road.
Northern Territory Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Nicole Manison said the project will support around 380 jobs in construction over the rest of 2018.
“Gunn Point Road is an access road to many very popular recreational fishing, camping and caravanning destinations close to Darwin, Palmerston and surrounding suburbs. There is great potential for more tourism development in his area,” she said.
“It has high usage by Police and Emergency Services, PowerWater, the Australian Defence Force and many other regular users.
Ms. Manison said the upgrades will improve accessibility and safety for road users and support further growth in recreational fishing, tourism and development of the area.
“Commencing this work now will also facilitate and progress Project Sea Dragon, a $1.45 billion prawn aquaculture project that is expected to create around 1,500 jobs.”
A planning study, including community consultation, was undertaken for Gunn Point Road in October 2017.
The work will be delivered in three construction packages. Tenders are open for four weeks, with construction expected to commence in April 2018.
