Road users and residents in Sydney’s south-west are invited to have their say on the first stage of the Henry Lawson Drive upgrade.

The New South Wales Government has committed $115.6 million to upgrade the 7.5 kilometre drive between the M5 South Western Motorway, Milperra, and Hume Highway, Lansdowne, with the first stage spanning from Keys Parade to just north of Tower Road.

The upgrade would help ensure the road corridor can meet growing demand, with residential, commercial and industrial development expected to increase in the coming years.

Minister for Roads Andrew Constance said key environmental assessments for the project were now on display.

“Henry Lawson Drive is a vital north-south connector, carrying around 38,000 vehicles during daily peak periods,” Mr Constance said.

“Transport for NSW is proposing to upgrade Henry Lawson Drive in stages to reduce congestion, boost safety and improve connectivity along this major corridor.”

Stage 1A of the project would provide more capacity for vehicles travelling through the intersection of Henry Lawson Drive, Milperra Road and Newbridge Road.

The Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the first stage are open for public comment until Friday 17 September.

The public can view and comment on the REF via the project webpage at nswroads.work/henrylawsondrive and the EIS via Canterbury Bankstown Council’s project webpage at haveyoursay.cbcity.nsw.gov.au/projects.

Work is already underway to complete the detailed design of the first stage in preparation for construction.

Transport for NSW will start work later this year on a separate pinch point project to widen Henry Lawson Drive at Georges Hall, which will bring early relief to drivers experiencing southbound congestion.
