Huge engineering construction growth in Tasmania

The March quarter for 2019 saw the highest spending ever recorded on engineering construction work in Tasmania.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released its engineering construction activity statistics for the March 2019 quarter.

Over the year to March 2019, engineering construction work grew 24 per cent in Tasmania compared to the March 2018 quarter.

Tasmania had the highest growth rate in the nation for both the year and the quarter, with a growth of 3.7 percent in the March 2019 quarter.

The quarter also saw nearly $388 million spent on engineering construction work done.

More than $1.4 billion in work was done and completed in the year to March 2019  in Tasmania.

Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Infrastructure in Tasmania said the 2019-20 state budget looks to maintain the momentum and invest in growth.

He said the data released shows the engineering and construction sector in Tasmania continues to grow.

The government has a $3.6 billion infrastructure plan for the next four years which Mr. Rockliff said will aim to continue this growth.
