A major repair program has wrapped up on the Hyland Highway in Gippsland, Victoria, with the completion of safety upgrades seeing the connection fully reopen to local traffic and tourists.
The Hyland Highway near Carrajung suffered heavy rainfall, causing s two landslips on the road in November and December 2023.
Crews carried out asphalting and road surface repairs, restored damaged structures and road shoulders, cleared roadside drains and culverts, and replaced safety barriers, signage, and roadside assets.
Extensive works included the construction of a 50-metre-long retaining wall with increased load-bearing capacity to stabilise the road.

Both lanes of the highway are now open, and the 100km/h speed limit has been reinstated.
The Victorian Government has also kicked off a $964 million road maintenance blitz, as part of the largest single-year investment towards road maintenance in Victoria’s history, to deliver much needed works across the state.
Crew are out across the state working on thousands of projects to rebuild, repair and resurface roads including major works to the South Gippsland Highway, Rosedale-Longford Road, Koo-Wee-Rup-Longwarry Road, and Korumburra-Warragul Road.
