Major construction is taking place for the Pakenham train line in May and June this year as part of the Pakenham Level Crossing Removal Project in Melbourne, which is expected to be completed in 2024.
22 level crossings are planned for removal, with 13 already gone to ease road congestion and improve safety. A 2.5 kilometre elevated rail bridge will be built over McGregor Road, Main Street and Racecourse Road as well as new stations being built at Pakenham and East Pakenham.
The developments will allow for more trains, more frequently and are expected to provide open spaces under the rail bridge between McGregor Road and Main Street. The community can enjoy a three meter wide shared path, parklands, playgrounds, barbecue areas, exercise equipment and a half basketball court.

Crews will be working 24/7 to complete upgrades and relocations of essential services at Webb Street, as well as piling and concrete pouring in preparation for the new rail bridge and elevated station.
An online community survey was used to help the planning of the makeover, creating more direct links between public transport, the town centre and additional parking.
With better facilities, instalments of new signalling, more services and the new premium Pakenham Station, bike riders will also have safer links to pass through the community.
