The road has been widened at the intersection of High Street and Holland Drive to cater for heavy vehicles turning left from High Street.
The new lane configurations are now in effect to support the more than 17,000 vehicles travel along High Street daily.
As part of the project, a safer speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour has been introduced on High Street in both directions between Melton Valley Drive and the Melton Highway roundabout, reducing the likelihood and severity of crashes.
Melissa Horne, Minister for Roads and Road Safety said the upgrades will ensure Melton residents can get where they need to go safely and smoothly.
